Where they from?
Lublin, Poland. Normally I’d make a joke here about how my Mom is a Polish immigrant and has basically tortured me my whole life with it (love you, Mom!) but I just want to say how proud I am of the Polish people for handling the flood of refugees from Ukraine the way they have. There’s a lot of shitty stuff going on in the world right now but seeing the love and support they have shown to total strangers has rekindled my faith in humanity.
Why the hype?
Of all the Polish grind bands that I’ve enjoyed over the years (Antigama, Nyia, Squash Bowels, Dead Infection, that other one), Suffering Mind always held a special place in my heart. It’s just no-fucking-around, straight-to-the-gut grind that doesn’t sacrifice brutality for anything. Think of Canada’s Six Brew Bantha but with less ADHD in the songwriting department and an absolutely eviscerating guitar tone. Seriously, it’s like spitting frog venom into your earlobe in a way that only eastern European bands know how to. Crust, grind, Polska, forever.
Lifeless out on 625 Thrashcore and Psycho Control Records. As much as I like the first half of this record, the second half kind of weirds me out being that it’s some strange amalgamation of spacey samples and straight-up noise. Maybe I’m just not a noise guy, but I will assure you that the first half does, in fact, fuck. Just purebred blistering Polish hategrind straight into my veins. Yes, Daddy.
