Exclusive Track Premiere: Dawnrider – “The Final Call”

On the opening track to their upcoming fourth album, The Fourth Dawn, Portugeuse quartet Dawnrider put the “we’re fucking doomed” back in doom metal with this bleak track called The Final Call.” On the nearly eight-minute epic, Dawnrider channel early Black Sabbath and other classic U.K. doom with their rumbling plod, ominous lyrics and flashes of Hammond organ.

The Fourth Dawn, which was mixed and mastered by Mos Generator’s Tony Reed, will arrive on CD digipack and digital download via Moonspell vocalist Fernando Ribeiro’s Alma Mater Records on February 18. The vinyl comes a little later on May 20. You can preorder it here.

Here’s what the band had to say about their uplifting new track:

“‘The Final Call’ is a reminder of how close we are constantly walking toward the abyss. Also, it reminds us about our frailties and how misguided we can be with certain questions. Nevertheless, our lives are made of choices and either we choose to stand or to submit. It’s your choice. Whether facing the absence of light or lost in the wild amongst wolves, in doom we trust.”
