Stop me if you heard this before, but Shane Embury is a prolific fellow. In fact, in the time it took me to type the previous sentence, the erstwhile Napalm Death/Venomous Concept/Lock Up/Brujeria/Absolute Power/Tronos guitarist/bassist/vocalist probably started in a new project. For now, though, we’ll focus on Dark Sky Burial, Embury’s solo venture of dark ambient soundscapes and unsettling industrial noise textures, which today releases Vincit qui Se Vincit, the third Dark Sky Burial full-length release since March 2020.
“With the debris of the COVID-19 pandemic still orbiting my consciousness, life has become very different for me than I imagined it would have been this past year,” Embury tells Decibel. “DSB has given me an outlet for my creativity amongst the stress of every day life — something we all are going through. This third album in the planned quadrilogy (the four album will arrive at the end of 2021) is called Vincit qui Se Vincit, which translates roughly to “he conquers who conquers himself.” As my two worlds have been thrust together for 16 months now, I find that I need to become who I have always wanted to be and cast of those chains of delusion. It’s tough, but I am trying.”
You can — and should! — stream all of Vincit qui Se Vincit below. And don’t forget that Dark Sky Burial makes its live debut on September 12 at The Underworld in London’s Camden area. And if you can’t make it in person, you can order streaming tickets here.
