It’s been over three years since we featured the unholy black-winged Swedish onslaught of Malakhim on our weekly column Demo:listen. For their part, the Västerbotten-based quintet filled those years with the deadly EP II (2019) and a live album released earlier this year.
Soon the Swedes will unleash their first LP and today it’s our privilege to share with our readers the opening track from Theion, Malakhim’s debut album, out January 8 on Iron Bonehead Records. Full of fire and hard-earned black metal perfection, “There Is A Beacon” suggests with undeniable persuasion that our patience will soon be sumptuously rewarded.
“Almost two years have passed since the release of II, and during this time we have sharpened our blades and prepared Theion to be unleashed on the world,” proclaims E, vocalist of Malakhim. “This opening track is built around a harrowing and ominous lead melody intended to guide the listener on an inner journey across the infinite oceans of the Abyss and set out towards the horizon where the lighthouse of the adversary beckons and calls. Great light of the world, flaming beacon of the Morning Star—guide our path!”
