Decibel has made it no secret that we’re enamored with Dutch doom-death metallers Celestial Season. From our behind-the-scenes emails detailing our appreciation for everything pre-Sonic Orb EP–in particular 1995 stunner Solar Lovers–to the coverage we’ve given the band in the magazine (check out December 2020) and on our website (song premiere, The Lazarus Pit), the Dutch masters have become an in-house Decibel staple. To wit, we couldn’t get enough of resurrection (back to doom-death) album, The Secret Teachings. In fact, the entire Decibel staff liked it so much we voted for it in our Top 40 Albums of 2020, where Celestial Season placed near mid-table at #28. That’s no mean feat for a band nobody had heard from in the last 20 years.
Turns out the relationship isn’t one-sided. Celestial Season were all-too ready to continue our “relationship,” offering Decibel the premiere of new video, “The Secret Teachings of All Ages.” Says drummer/jack-of-all-trades Jason Köhnen: “After our reincarnation in the ‘doom era,’ the question we have been asked quite a bit is… Will you ever perform live again? Well, until we are able to see what the future brings. So, the video for ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’ is as good as it will get for the moment. ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’ is inspired by the works of Manly P. Hall, and is the opener to our new album The Secret Teachings. We have been blessed with incredibly positive feedback with our comeback and the homage to 25 years of Solar Lovers.”
