For Those About to Squawk: Waldo Pecks on Godthrymm, Svart Crown and American Nightmare

What’s, up guys?  Here we are with another installment of one of your favorite columns! It should be your only favorite, but I digress…

Godthrymm is hitting us with their first full length called Reflections. So what about this, Waldo? Well, this features Hamish Glencross who is formerly of My Dying Bride, Vallenfyre and Solstice, so you should have a little idea of what this is about. This is doom, and like TRADITIONAL UK DEATH-DOOM.  This is a gothy, melancholic affair, at times slightly (that’s right SLIGHTLY) reminiscent of Bauhaus. The production really is spot on for this style. One thing that I have to mention here is the riffs. This is not an exercise in just loud-ass droning, there are actual riffs here. Vocally this is pretty cool with Glencross’s vocals can only be described as “soaring” at times. All in all, this is a solid metal record, and I am looking forward to hearing more from this trio. 8 Fucking Pecks.

France’s Svart Crown is releasing Wolves Among The Ashes. I’m relatively new to this band, but I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed so far. This is CHAOTIC technical death metal, and while NOT super raw, there’s something in the technicality and polishedness that this birdbrain actually likes. It’s kinda hard to pigeonhole this, but in general think like a (better) Gojira. One thing that REALLY stands out here, and NOT in a good way is the doon track.  This is a dull affair here, awash in lackluster trappings of doom and really goes nowhere.  I know these guys have been around for a bit, but I’m pecking digging this. 7 Fucking Pecks

So, this is HUGE for me, or should be… American Nightmare the amazing punk/hardcore band is back. Well, sorta. For anyone that doesn’t know. AN got sued by a Misfits cover band and had to change their name to the unfortunate Give Up The Ghost. Blah blah blah, I mean that’s not important, BUT they were great.  So, anyway they are back with a new 7-inch called Life Support, and while not bad at all. It seems a little, I dunno unnecessary? This is one original and a cover of a Lemonheads song, and it’s good, it just doesn’t have the fury of the earlier American Nightmare. So, I dunno, I think that they’re not really pumping this, it’s probably just a thing for the fans, and like I said, it’s good. BUT CHECK OUT THIS! 6 Fucking Pecks

Until next time… Waldo OUT!
