The Decibel Meter: When Temperatures and Release Schedules Are Heating up!

Many hotter-than-hell festival-or-peak-tour-seasons ago, we announced our collaboration with f.y.e. for the Decibel Meter, a monthly collection of titles to help keep to your backyard barbecues properly raging (and sweaty, most likely). This month’s collection, coinciding with the July 2019 issue (featuring Cave In on the cover), contains titles from across the extreme metal spectrum, as the release schedule has heated up alongside the temperatures!

This summer has already seen big releases from big names: in particular, you’ve likely heard word on Old Star from Darkthrone, a blast from the past sure to top year-end lists (which we highly recommend, if you haven’t picked it up yet). On the thrash side, California legends Death Angel return with Humanicide, sure to start a circle pit on your patio. It might be a good idea to keep the windmilling away from the grill though….

Or, if this is more of the occasion to invite the neighbors over, Gold & Grey from Baroness provides a perfect soundtrack for the summer months; and Nighttime Stories from Pelican at least spares your roommates from the black metal rasp you subject them to during the winter months.

For the vinyl junkies looking to crank up the AC and sit in the easy chair, this month’s exclusive vinyl include the aforementioned Old Star in opaque purple, and both Demons & Wizards full-lengths, the self-titled in opaque purple, and sophomore release Touched by the Crimson King in blue glass variant.

As that thermometer tops out grab some of the year’s top metal albums with the full list here, or to keep the summer at max metal immediately, head straight to the nearest f.y.e location to keep your outdoor events raging.
