The Decibel Meter: March Metal Madness

If you’re not too frustrated with all the money lost on March Madness hotels, floor seats, elimination pools, gut-crushing bar/party food, or cheap beer—or, conversely, if Lady Luck has been on your side—this month’s Decibel Meter brings a variety of titles from across the metal spectrum… much as this month’s tournament brought teams from around the country! Yeah, OK, that was a stretch, but hey, we tried. Anyway, for those unfamiliar with the series, each month we team up with fye to feature some of the face-melting, fist-pumping, court-crushing (…wait, what?) titles that you need for the soundtrack to your I-can’t-believe-they-won-at-the-last-second raging (…or weeping). Check out the full list of March Metal Madness here.

Starting with some of your favorite teams, this month’s list includes some serious classics with a vinyl reissue of Judas Priest‘s Rocka Rolla, Motörhead‘s We Are Motörhead and Iron Maiden‘s Powerslave and Somewhere in Time (complete with extras!). Slightly more modern powerhouses include Grand Declaration of War by Mayhem and Celestial Mechanics by newly formed Tronos (featuring Shane Embury, Dirk Verburen, and Russ Russell).

Or, for those with their eye on the up-and-coming newer squads (are we talking bands or basketball teams here?), this list also features a host of hardcore/metalcore insanity, starting with Year of the Knife‘s Ultimate Aggression. If that’s a little too straightedge for your post-game hangover/festivities, f.y.e. also has SeeYouSpaceCowboy‘s Songs for the Firing Squad, I Prevail‘s Trauma and Periphery‘s Hail Stan (no, Constant Reader, that is not a typo).
