For Those About to Squawk: Horrisonous, Ravenous Death, Vesication

What up, foos?  This time of year… (I know, I bitch about it a lot), this time of year, the releases really slow down, so I do my best here. So let’s peck it out, shall we?

First up is Horrisonous (uhh, what? Is that horrible and poisonous together?) is releasing Culinary Cacophony (uhh, what?) on Memento Mori. I wasn’t really sure what to make of this based off the band name, the title and the cover art. I mean, what is going on here? Anyway, this is some RIPPING beaking death metal. This is how death metal should be. It moves a little, has some blasts, has some grooves and some pecking brutal vocals. I’m digging this. There seems to have been a glut of just nasty-ass death metal lately and that’s a great thing, problem is, a lot of it doesn’t stand apart from each other. This is an exception to this rule. Clearly these guys have a sense of humor with songs like “The Number of the Feast” and “Crispy Chunks of the Obese…” I’m into it. Ignore the cover art (which I actually love, BTW) and other stuff and get with it!

7 Fucking Pecks

Here’s another death metal jam: Ravenous Death from Mexico (also on the Memento Mori label) is releasing Chapters Of an Evil Transition. This is a mix, a total mix of Floridian death metal and Swedish death metal with a dose of “blackened” thrown in. This is cool, pretty intense and at times REALLY harkens back to the more “Florida” aspect of that style. There are some breakdowns that a lot of death metal seems to ignore these days.  It’s pretty cool.

6 Fucking Pecks.

So apparently I’m on a death metal kick today. Canada’s Vesication is releasing Decade Of Damage on Horror Pain Gore Death. This is peck ass, the problem here is… WHY?  This is a compilation of nasty (yet fun) songs from their one full length and one EP. Why a compilation? Just, like, re-issue the EP and LP together? I dunno, I’m sure there’s some reason. So this is death metal. I mean, DEATH PECKING METAL, but clearly they have some fun with it. With songs like “Piss Shitting Dick Nipples” and “Shit Pipe Sundae” (which is WAY different than Shit Pipe Sunday, I would assume). So yeah, I like this, wish I would’ve known about these sickos before.

7 Fucking Pecks.

Shameless self-promotion time: there’s a new Hatebeak split coming out on Puppy Mill Records. Birdhouse by the Cemetery is shared with Boar Glue, a guinea pig-fronted band masterminded by Richard Christy (Death, Iced Earth). Peck it out!
