Portland, Maine isn’t exactly thought of as a “metal” city, but bands like Ruin could change that perception. The groove metal quartet bypass pleasantries and frills, instead opting to go straight for the jugular. On new single “Living in Fear,” fat, hardcore-tinged riffs and a rock-solid rhythm section bludgeon the listener while guitarist/vocalist Richard Carey gives a throat-ruining performance.
