For Those About to Squawk: Necrosleezer, Blood Feast, Defy the Curse

I gotta say, if you missed the Decibel Metal and Beer Fest: LA, you blew it. Amazing sets by Khemmis, Black Dahlia Murder, Testament and of course Triptykon. If you don’t know… then now you know. Anyway, that’s not the reason why I’m here… I’m here to tell you about some new releases. I’d do an end-of-the-year list, but that seems like a lot of work…

You know… I just HAVE to review a band called Necrosleezer and their demo (sorta) PopeKill out on Nuclear War Now!.  So, sometime in the ’90s, Blasphemy broke up, so, they went to a barn and started Necrosleezer. This is the release of that demo before Blasphemy actually got off the ground. So what about this? This is in the vein of Blasphemy, you know, kinda “punky” twisted black metal that has no real arty qualities and just kinda goes for the jugular. Blast beats, screeched vocals and frenetic guitar playing abound here. This is only four songs but it’s pretty cool that way. The thing here is, why is this being released?  I mean, it’s cool, but who’s looking for this? Bonus points for a song entitled “Mistress Rotten Crotch.” For fans only. 6 Fucking Pecks.

I love New Jersey’s Blood Feast. Kill For Pleasure is a total underrated USDM classic and, like a lot of classic bands, they are back together (releasing a pretty cool record in 2017). So, they are back at it, this time rerecording some of their classic songs on Chopped Sliced and Diced. Usually, this doesn’t bode well at all; why rerecord this stuff when you could write some more? This is an EP and really doesn’t need to be around. Classic songs, that while sounding great rerecorded, just don’t need to exist. Don’t get me wrong, this band is badass, just see no reason for this EP. Material: 7 Fucking Pecks. Packaging” 5 Fucking Pecks.

Want some HM2? Defy The Curse are dropping their self titled on Hammerheart. This is Entombed worship to a “T” but… but… it’s pretty ripping. There are riffs and grooves here, and does not come across as sounding like a total clone. This is a pretty good effort here and with ex-members of Inhume, one could kind of suppose that. Just to be clear, there’s a healthy dose of crustcore, sludge and death in this, not just STRAIGHT Entombed worship. This is pretty nasty and pretty cool for a first release. 7 Fucking Pecks.

See you foos next year… Waldo
