Watch a New Clip from Upcoming Steve Austin Movie, “The Man Who Loves to Hurt Himself”

Today is the Day’s Steve Austin has carved out a niche in extreme music, earning a reputation for experimental and challenging works (like the Decibel Hall of Fame-inducted album Temple of the Morning Star). Though the music and art he makes is often abrasive and violent, the Steve Austin shown in video is reserved and thoughtful in the year’s worth of interviews that make up “The Man Who Loves to Hurt Himself,” a revealing new documentary on the artist.

The documentary was directed by Anthony Short and focuses on Austin’s compulsion to express himself through emotive, powerful art. The interviews and ride-a-long footage in the film are fleshed out with live performances, home footage and old photographs.

“The Man Who Loves to Hurt Himself” was screened at various film festivals and has received numerous awards and nominations for Best Documentary, Best Film and more. Watch a clip of the movie below where Austin explains that he finds sources of inspiration anywhere; more info on “The Man Who Loves to Hurt Himself” is on the film’s website. It will be available for purchase and streaming on August 28.
