International metal collective Massive Scar Era–based in both Vancouver and Cairo, Egypt–have faced xenophobia as musicians, which inspired their new song “Color Blind.” Having already released a series of EPs, guitarist/vocalist Cherine Amr says they were invited to perform at SXSW when they were turned away at the United States border, due to members’ Egyptian heritage, in addition to having bassist Dylan Wijdenes- Charles’ indigenous background questioned.
“Racial profiling, racism, and discrimination are the reality that visible minorities have to live with!” Amr told Decibel.
These events inspired “Color Blind,” which you can watch below. As you’ll hear, Massive Scar Era incorporate Egyptian strings and percussion in their music.
