It’s getting to be that time of year, things tend to start slowing down this time of year, but there are some notable releases coming out…
The Body & Full Of Hell release Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light on Thrill Jockey. This is the second collab for these two extreme acts. This is a weird one alright… glitching electronic blips, punishing doom, blast beats, harsh noise and a… saxophone. This one is hard to peg down, this is a very unique record, the tracks that shine here are great, but there’s another half of the record that seems to suffer from pacing and a little tedium. Pigeonholing or really defining this is difficult, as one would expect from a collaboration from these two offbeat bands. All in all, this is a really good release, nihilistic, and blood chilling (and danceable at times) and definitely one that should be noted for how brazen of a collab it is. It’s just that even though this is nuanced, it all tends to get lost in the overall huge wall of sound (noise). In this birdbrain’s opinion, this is super pecking cool, but probably not for the casual listener. 8 Fucking Pecks.
I really didn’t think I’d like the Cavalera Conspiracy’s latest effort, Psychosis, but I’m pleasantly surprised. This is as close to Sepultura as we’re going to get. CC have issued a couple of records before, nothing great, nothing bad, but this by far is the best of their catalog. Imagine an updated version of Arise or Roots and you KINDA get the idea. Psychosis is by no means that, but sounds like it was written and composed by the same songwriting team (which it was). This is not without it’s flaws, there’s like a sort of industrial dance sounding track which TOTALLY sucks and this more than sticks its toes in the nu metal water more than once (which is WAY too many times), but this is cool. Not a bad effort. 7 Fucking Pecks.
Want some super violent dark war metal? Infernal Blast release Wolves Elitism Speech on War Arts Production. There’s only so much to be said about this: it’s French, it’s black metal, it’s SUPER aggressive, it’s short. I mean, what is there to be said about this genre that hasn’t been said? This is a REALLY mean release, it’s black metal to a tee. Not being a huge fan of black metal, this is a pretty solid release. 7 Fucking Pecks.
