For Those About To Squawk: Peckin’ On Black Metal

Ok, so this time of year, you know, there’s not much going on. This time I’m not going to give you my top releases, so I’m just going to review what ACTUALLY IS coming out.  If history has proved anything, there’s not much between now and the end of the year, so I’m just going to pick some stuff at random.

Uhh, so I’m not even sure how to approach this one. Projekt Mensch is some sort of German black industrial group and I gotta be honest, it’s not easy to find anything out about them because this bird does not speak Deutsche. So they have a new record called Herzblut.  Here’s from their Wiki: “Ursprünglich war geplant, erste Studioaufnahmen bereits 2007 zu machen. So like yeah, whatever that means. This is like a rawer Rammstein and most definitely not my pecking thing. Check out the clip below. Also they have an ex-member whose pseudonym is “Stalin…” Yeah I’m just going to leave that out there. 2 Fucking Pecks.

Let’s keep the cheese going, shall we? Dark Portrait, basically a mall metal black metal band has put out the utterly bland A Harrowing Atrocity. I guess there’s a market for stuff like this, I’m just not sure what it is. Symphonic black metal with absolutely no teeth at all. Do yourself a favor and listen to Fatal Portrait by King Diamond instead.  Bleh. 1 Fucking Peck.

I don’t know what a Murg is, but the black metal band has a new record called Gudatall out on Bindrune. This is black metal and while way better than the other releases I’ve reviewed, it’s just serviceable, decent black metal. Your standard BM fare is here: fast trem picking, screeched vocals and all around “grim” topics. Maybe it’s the fact that I just loathed the previous reviews but this is pretty OK. Not groundbreaking by any means, but just black metal to a “T.”  So, like, I dunno… 6 Fucking Pecks.

So like yeah, we’ll peep you later, hopefully the release schedule will pick up.  Waldo out!
