Fans of Melechesh, Rotting Christ, Tengger Cavalry and the more extreme moments in the Orphaned Land catalog should absolutely make time for the new album by Singapore “Vedic” metallers Rudra this fall. The band has been active (and fucking prolific!) since the 90s, and their eighth full-length is due to singe ears and elevate consciousnesses this December. The percussive punishment, guitar gloriosity and vocal fury on offer is genuinely exceptional, and the band’s immersive blend of extreme destruction and expansive traditional instrumentation stands out as superlative rather than gimmicky.
Over at the album’s Bandcamp page, you can hear the first two tracks from new album Enemy of Duality, and right here you can check out the record’s mammoth closing number, “Ancient Fourth.” Tuck in for more than nine minutes of face-ruling ethnically flavored extremism, and don’t miss out on the band’s webpage for more about the making of the album and a glimpse at their earlier work.
