For Those About to Squawk: Waldo’s Pecks of the Week

Every other Friday (except last time, since he shat the cage), Waldo the African Grey Parrot, frontbird of thrash-grind immortals Hatebeak, will get you caught up on the week’s latest “extreme” releases.
Releases are actually starting to pick up a little! The doldrums of the New Year look like they are starting to be a little bit behind us, like a bad tailfeather itch.

“You got some blackened in my thrash”. “No, you got some thrash in my blackend.” Whichever, the LA (That’s Loosiana, not Los Angeles) bros of blackened thrash, Duet/Falgoust and co. are STILL hating god and back with Blood for the Master. GOATWHORE dust off the spiked armbands and bring us a really solid release. This band keeps getting better with age. They tour constantly, so do yourself a favor and go see them. Blackened thrash with catchy (gasp!) riffs that bludgeon and stick in your head at the same time. This is how it should be played: fast and brutal, catchy and blasphemous. Blood for the Master is a great record waiting to be discovered, so do yourself a favor and beaking go discover it already. 8 FUCKING PECKS

corrosion

Like CORROSION OF CONFORMITY? Me too. Well, I did anyway, for like the first two records and EPs. Like Animosity? The classic era? Me too. Want to hear a NEW C.O.C. record with that lineup? Ehhh… MAYBE? Well, you don’t. This titular (hee hee… tit) release is sure to be a letdown with C.O.C. purists. Even though this lineup of Dean, Weatherman, Keenan and Mullin SHOULD hearken back to the glory days, it doesn’t. This is that kinda southern fried stoner-y birdshit. Not my scene. 4 FUCKING PECKS

autopsy cover

Containing all of the EPs issued by the band, Peaceville release All Tomorrows Funerals by classic deathsters AUTOPSY. This is classic stuff from the Retribution for the Dead and The Tomb Within, featuring 4 new tracks. This is Autopsy, no doubt, nothing new here, but it definitely rips. Do yourself a favor and pick this up, both on CD and LP. This will not disappoint. 8 FUCKING PECKS

Utilitarian by NAPALM DEATH is going to beak your pecking tailfeathers. Tighter than a mouse’s twat, this is EASILY the best record they’ve released in recent times. The recording is a little blown out, but that only adds to the brutality of this soon-to-be-classic. Some discordant riffing and chant-y style vocals keep this thing fresh, and that’s a great thing. Present as usual are the screams, blast beats and the Napalm-style breakdowns. After 30 years, Napalm seems to be a new band on this record. Leaning a little more to the punk side, the record destroys. 9 FUCKING PECKS

With more beak-scratches than last year’s Lulu release, the morbid ones, MORBID ANGEL are back again with Illud Divinum Insanus: The Remixes. Do you like this crappy record? Do you want two CDs worth of remixes of about five of the songs from this crappy record? If you do, then by all means, throw your money away. I really can’t squawk about how worthless this is. This is the aural equivalent of getting Hep C. You know, you’re not going to die, but it really, really sucks. 1 FUCKING PECK
