Prog nerds rejoice! It’s the new OSI track “Cold Call”. Formed by Jim Matheos (Fates Warning, Arch/Matheos) and Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex-Dream Theater) and augmented by Porcupine Tree mind-blower Gavin Harrison, OSI, in its current iteration, is stripped down and ready global domination on the group’s fourth (first non-license for Metal Blade) full-length.

OSI, perhaps like many bands in the post-Jam age, finds Matheos and Moore working independently, sharing files, ideas, and digital yogurt across the Internet. Although Moore does 99.99999% of the vocals on Fire Make Thunder, his dominance doesn’t diminish the rest of the collaborator’s input (and musical output). There’s a wide variety of influences streaming across the album’s eight outstanding tracks, and while we here at the Deciblog might be inclined to premiere OSI’s re-tooling of Kool & The Gang’s “Joanna” (sorry, this joke’s best meant for April 1st), we settled on mid-tempo thumper “Cold Call”.

Recorded by Moore and Matheos and engineered by Matt Sepanic (Slipknot, Murderdolls), “Cold Call”, like the rest of Fire Make Thunder is both clear, crisp, yet remarkably dense. Think we’re daft? The proof is below.

** OSI’s Fire Make Thunder is out March 27, 2012 on Metal Blade Records. Pre-order it HERE, or some well-suited dudes in black choppers will find you and take you to some undisclosed location wherein they’ll ask you the same question — “What’s your favorite colour?” — for 72 hours straight.
