GATES OF SLUMBER_The Wretch_album_cover

As an ex-Hoosier, it’s always nice to highlight bands who are thriving in Indiana. The colossal crew Gates of Slumber are one of those bands dedicated to old school metal that is only concerned with riffs the size of whale bones.

Below is “Coven of Cain,” the first eruption from forthcoming album The Wretch, slated for a May 10th release on Rise Above Records. It’s rocking, muscular doom that will put visions of bloodied warriors fighting to the death in your head. And we can’t not mention the howling solo that’s thick as an imperial stout.

Press play and whip your hair.

Looks like we’ll be getting another awesome album from The Gates of Slumber soon. At this point, I’ve come to expect nothing different. One of the best purveyors of modern doom, right here.

Hell yeah, way better than almost every song on the previous album which was a letdown after the greatness that is Conqueror. Can’t wait for this. PS – Gates, come to Bloomington. Wtf, guys. It’s only 45 minutes.

I loved Hymns of Blood and Thunder, but it lacked a certain something. This song has that something. All hail the Something!

    The Roods ????

  • Stonedead

Crap production with a wimpy fizzy guitar tone…must have cost all of $40…whats up with Rize above, all their albums sound like crap….this sounds like wretched with Sherman but without the classiness…..

    • Caravanofskulls

Its on a computer and a downloaded version! (Sherman with Wretched is an awesome piece of early Maryland doom.) I think this has a nice 70’s quality to it. I saw them do a few other tracks form this record live and they killed man.

Awesome!! Being a hoosier, you should check out another up and coming Indiana band called Thorr-Axe. Crushing stuff.

  • Thelockedward

Fuckin excellant doom metal from the masters, they have come up trumps again, miss at your peril metalheads!!!

  • Caravanofskulls

Can’t wait for this release! Its gonna be a good year for new albums thats for sure between this and the Pentagram who could go wrong? Everything I’ve seen GOS perform live from this album killed! I think they are back in a way that will make people really take notice when it comes to their older influences.
