Here is what Enfold Darkness founder/lead guitarist Matt Brown had to say about the track…

“Our debut record, Our Cursed Rapture, was released in stores in 2009. However, it was written and recorded largely during 2006 and 2007. We feel that the sound of the band has changed considerably since this time period, and we are very excited to be sharing this creation with the world…

“In the beginning, Enfold Darkness was primarily a thrash band. Since our humble beginnings in 2005, we have gone from that to blackened death metal, to finally what we are hoping will be our original and hallmark sound: that of technical black metal…

“‘Lairs of the Ascended Masters’ is about transcendence. It is about leaving behind old modes of thought and moving forward. In today’s world, people are beginning to look at our way of life through a different ‘lens’ — so-to-speak — because things have been going to shit for some time now. While ‘Lairs’ is a themed song about a wizard learning to transcend to higher dimensions while obtaining new and dangerous magical powers, it is very much paralleled with whats going on in our current day and age.”

    i see they have went to the break down department alot of the riffs sound close to material off the first record i was hopeing they would bring in more elements to the table with the level of musicianship they have i would put them in the faceless department a never ending trend that seems to bring out a fleet of bands that sound the same nothing break through here.

    This is really fucking good. Vocals are a very minor annoyance but still an amazing track. I might just pre-order this along with the new Cannibal Corpse, Veil of Maya, and Aborted.

    Some of the best musicians out there.  I saw these guys in Orlando, FL with Obscura and Abysmal Dawn.  They absolutely DESTROYED the place and made the other bands look stupid.

    sounds like another faceless, diskreet, osillator band to me, no oldschool influence what so every, they probly dont even listen to death metal , i like it but wont let it influence my style and wont be blasting it in my car,and fuck the sound replacement on the drums use the real snare atleast fuckers haha and im sure they slowed down the tempo to record guitars for perfect notes and sweeps gay…just like born of osiris metalcore will die….go listen to (hour of penance) thats good shit this band will be forgettable

      There is definitely influence from metal bands of the past. i.e., there would not be ‘modern’ metal had there not been the old bands to be of influence. And even if there is a ‘core’ influence here, it doesn’t matter because it’s not the over abused, poorly simplified “breakdown” that so many of our simplistic human civilization “deathcore” fans get off on. I agree that metal albums should be recorded as played, no added/ substituted percussion, no tempo slow downs for recording purposes. but such is the way of the music industry and if that deters you from a recorded band that makes enjoyable music then that’s your perogative. just giving my opinion in response, but there is no correlation between metalcore and what Enfold Darkness is doing here.

    To me it is an american take on Black metal artist like Abigor. also

    no one i think can deny that  there is a huge 90′s Cradle of Filth aspect to this ( and there always has been) but they have made it their own. The new vocalist is unique, and i also think that overall the vocals are an improvement( maybe a tad sloppy though).
    lets see where this goes. At least Sumerian is releasing a good band. 
    too bad the trolls are stuck in the past.

    I really like the new sound sooooo much man. I mean I never really liked Cradle of Filth’s lead vox too much, but therer sound was a good mixture of sounds. I feel like you guys had a similar sound that was a bit heavier. But damn guys! you supprised me, I never thought I’d say that I like your new singer better! He fits really well with the heaviness. And the black metal influence is like no other man, to me black metal always lacked that “drive” or intensity but you hit the nail on the head with this track. Hope the hope album is this good.

    Not sure people fully understand what “deathcore” is. There is no “core” influence here. I mean, other than the contrast between the lows and highs, but a lot of classic and modern death metal bands have done that. Not liking something is one thing, but calling something deathcore when its in no way related is just stupid. That being said, I’ve been a fan of these guys for aome time now and I’m excited for more new material.

    The over-the-top negative comments are nothing more than a display of juvenile idiocy, it’s like tapping into the mind of a 15 year old kid rebelling against their teachers and parents after being beat up by the school bully. I think this music is great, the instrumentation is exceptional, and the composition is the work of a group of very mature musicians. If you don’t like it, why bother screaming about it? Nobody here is being forced to express their opinion. Great work Enfold, and your drummer is a god holding drumsticks.
