Decibel is very pleased to present the music video for Bulletbelt‘s song, “Deathgasm 2,” which is the theme song for the horror comedy film of the same name. Fans of the New Zealand-based band will remember their blistering contribution to the first Deathgasm film. And while that track played like a punky-blackened-speed metal beast risen from the grave, the new song shows that monster’s epic evolution with a fresh infusion of power metal glory! Usually I’d prefer the former style, but the band executes the new track with so much swagger — fun, but NOT cheesy — that I have to raise my glass to it.
For some reason, the combination of a catchy metal song with a horror comedy feels nostalgic to me, as there’s something very 2000s about the pairing. The film’s premise, a metalhead bringing his bandmates back from the dead to compete in a battle-of-the-bands competition, also has a certain innocence to it.
The film’s writer and director Jason Howden says “I was adamant that Bulletbelt had to return to write and perform the theme song” and that “the guys knocked it out of the park yet again! Director Alex Hargreaves produced an epic music video which captures the film’s energy perfectly. I’m beyond proud of the clip that her and the team created and know that Deathgasm fans will love it.”
According to the band’s founder and drummer, Steve Francis:
“The Deathgasm universe is a huge part of Bulletbelt’s history, so it is an honor to be asked to write the theme for part two. We knew the track needed to be epic and cinematic and I think we ticked all the boxes. There’s even a tie-in to the original, see if you can hear it!”
Bulletbelt is joined on the Deathgasm 2 soundtrack alongside GWAR, Anvil, Skinless, Alien Weaponry, Sanguisugabogg, Frozen Soul, Into Eternity, Havok, Skull Fist and many other metal luminaries. For those of you looking to snag a copy of the film’s soundtrack on vinyl, Raven Banner will be releasing it in late October. Additionally, the song will appear on the band’s next album, Midnight Fistfight, on February 12, 2027.
The film itself will debut on major streaming platforms on October 13, though you can also catch select screenings at Alamo theaters on September 29!
