Gainesville’s extreme metal alchemist Myk Colby (Wharflurch, Plasmodulated, Hot Graves) has returned from the void with a brand-new death doom vessel: Liminal Erosion. The project’s monumental debut album In the Time Vulture’s Talons is streaming now in full, ahead of its September 26th release on Iron Fortress Records (digital, CD, and cassette).

Conceived, performed, and produced entirely by Colby, Liminal Erosion distills decades of underground extremity into a kaleidoscopic vision of death doom. The results are crushing and cavernous, but also refracted through shimmering textures and sorrowful atmospheres — a death-doomgaze hybrid that stretches genre borders into something stranger and more profound.

“This project started accidentally, although I’ve always had a love for Funeral and Death Doom,” Colby says. “The vision evolved into something larger in scope, something more profound… the sound of Death Doom but more kaleidoscopic, with lyrics to match.”

Rather than grounding his words in personal narrative, Colby aims for the abstract and the ineffable — lyrics that unfold like visions projected through the fog of glacial tempos, crushing riffs, and mournful melodies. Every note and texture was captured under Colby’s hand, while the haunting visuals come courtesy of GrusomeGraphx (artwork, logo) and Ryan Bonner / Bringmecreatures (photography).

In the Time Vulture’s Talons isn’t just a record, it’s a complete realization of Colby’s uncompromising creative will. Watch the whole shebang below and pre-order In the Time Vulture’s Talons via Iron Fortress Records here.
