Even the death metal in Portland, Oregon is, uh, unconventional. The city definitely has its own uniquely NW vibe and that certainly bleeds into the extreme music scene. Sea Sleeper are, we suppose, technically a death metal band, but one with some crazy tendencies toward proggy, noisy, atonal and even melodic aspirations. We’re streaming their soon-to-be-released second full-length, Burden of Antlers, so we invite you to immerse yourself in the unhinged brutality across the eight tracks on display. These dudes—Jesse Cooley (guitar/lead vocals), Shane Cooley (drums/vocals), and Nick Kessler (bass/vocals), with Tony Spradlin (lead guitar/vocals)—have been playing together in various other extreme bands (Southgate, Crackling Dawn) for decades (except for newcomer Spradlin) and it shows in the detailed way the songs are written, arranged and performed.
Burden of Antlers was produced, mixed and mastered by Jesse Cooley. Recording was handled at Sleeping Studio by Jesse and Shane Cooley. It’s being self-released on vinyl and digitally on September 18. Place your preorder here.
