Sure, the pandemic was a shit stain on the timeline of recent history, but one positive that came out of all that isolation and downtime was the number of bands that formed out of boredom and the need for creative outlets. This includes San Diego’s Negative Blast. Featuring ex and current members of Lewd Acts, Hour of the Wolf, Decent Criminal and Human Issue, and formerly having Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless/Hot Snakes/Rocket From the Crypt) behind the drums, Negative Blast come, erm, blasting out with an energetic volley of hardcore punk that falls somewhere between the sounds of Refused’s The Shape of Punk to Come, the hometown sounds of the Gravity Records roster in addition to classic rabble-rousing NYHC and noise rock. All this can be heard on the band’s upcoming album Destroy Myself For Fun, due out tomorrow via a Three One G/Vitriol Records co-release. All this can be heard via the stream we’re presenting today.
Says bassist Patrick Callaway about the band’s latest work: “All of our musical interests vary widely, with a lot of them being totally outside the world of punk and hardcore. For Destroy Myself For Fun, we explored further outside of that sometimes creatively-limited world, and really just did what seemed fun and felt good for each separate track. This is definitely a different sounding batch of songs than our previous record, but I think it still sounds like us. There’s more melody, but there’s still caveman aggro riffage. We’re beyond stoked to be working with Three One G this time around. We hope you like it, but if you don’t that’s fine. Some people have really shitty taste and that’s ok.”
Destroy Myself for Fun will be released on limited edition vinyl via Three One G and Vitriol on November 14th. Preorder, here.
