Full Album Stream: Modder –Destroying Ourselves for a Place in the Sun

Exclusive, Featured, Full Album Stream Belgium, Consouling Sounds, Destroying Ourselves for a Place in the Sun, Doom, Ghent, Instrumental, Lay Bare Recordings, Modder, Post Metal, Psychedelic doom metal, Sludge.

Flanders, the Belgian region from whence instrumental psych-sludge outfit Modder originates, is known for chocolate, fries and beer. Which begs the question, why would anyone want to live anywhere else in the world? Despite theses advantages, Modder still seem ansgty, as evidenced by their new album title, Destroying Ourselves for a Place in the Sun, and the sonic tension that lies therein, where behemoth crushing riffs are juxtaposed with bleep-bloop synth work and a cross-pollination between sludgy doom and head-spinning psychedelia. It’s like like enjoying a sour Flanders red ale with bitter, dark chocolate. Maybe doesn’t seem like a good pairing, but it’s pretty incredible.

Destroying Ourselves for a Place in the Sun was recorded (except drums) by the band at Place of Residence Studios. Drums were recorded by Jan Maas at Star Farm Studios, with additional drum engineering by Gregory Simons. It was mixed by Mathlovsky at House Of Lov, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. It’s set for release on vinyl and digitally on October 3 via Consouling Sounds and Lay Bare Recordings. Place your preorder here.

The band had this to say about its new full-length:

“We really wanted to embrace the experimental side of our song writing for this album. Mixing several subgenres of metal and electronic music, really amping up our industrial vibes and psychedelic tendencies.Keeping the sludge metal as a base to build upon, our amps really went beyond our usual, already very loud, volume. After two years of performing our previous album live, we felt we exceeded our previous mastery of our instruments and felt very confident invoking more polyrhythms and daring sound choices. Most bands as they grow older together really tend to soften their sound, either as a commercial choice or to keep doing it live, but we wanted to go beyond what was already there. Strengthening the belief that loud music can make this world a better place, while we fight for a place in the sun. These tracks are meant to be head rippers, listeners be warned!”
