For Those About to Squawk: Waldo Pecks on Creeping Death, Exhumed and Toxic Holocaust

What’s up, foos? Your old boy Waldo here with all the new releases that are fit to hate/love or otherwise be indifferent too…

Texas thrashers Creeping Death have been making quite a stir in the underground community for a little bit now, and are FINALLY releasing their first full-length after teasing us with a couple of EPs. Wretched Illusions coming out on eOne is a death thrash amalgam, so that being said, there’s not a lot here that’s super surprising BUT there’s actually a lot going on here. To the casual listener this is pretty by-the-numbers, but there’s elements of Swedish death, American OSDM and, of course, a healthy dose of thrash. While there’s certainly nothing out of the blue here, there’s riffs and hooks and the sound of this thing is nasty. I’m pecking digging it and am looking forward to hearing more from these guys. For fans of OLD Sepultura and the like. 7 Fucking Pecks.

Do you like horror? Do you like Exhumed? You should… not all gore metal is the same, and basically no one sounds like Exhumed and Horror is no exception. The vibe here is fun and the length here is… short. The running time here is brief and definitely ensures that this does not wear out its welcome. Blasty and nasty, Horror is a regular good time. Exhumed has been around for a long time, but the addition of Noisem’s Sebastian Phillips on guitar and return of Ross Sewage (who first reappeared on 2017’s Death Revenge) on bass makes for a great, revitalized lineup. Divebombs, blood and blasts. Kickass! 7 Fucking Pecks. Note: Video NSFW (boobs)

Man, am I on a thrash kick or what? Toxic Holocaust is releasing Primal Future 2019, and I am pecking digging this. There are CERTAINLY no surprises here but Joel Grind is in top form. This is your typical thrash basher type of jam, but there are some things here of note. The vocals are more “punk” and there’s some melody here. This is not just old throwback thrash, though. A lot of elements of Judas Priest, Motorhead and Venom are thrown in to make this sound distinctly like TH. Peck this up and rock the beak out! 7 Fucking Pecks.

Waldo out!
