Video Premiere: Struckout’s “Queer Shit”

While Long Beach, CA-based post-hardcore menaces, Struckout may still may be a couple months out from the July 20th release of their self-titled third album, the band and its new label, Postmark Records are doing an early, full court PR press. The advance announcement was made a couple weeks ago, pre-orders are already available and today we present the “galaxial” premiere of the video for “Queer Shit” which is all about colourful body painting, clear body guitars and Porky Pig backdrops set to a soundtrack of melodically abrasive noise transposing the explosion of a velvet kaleidoscope into sound.

We asked bassist/vocalist Daniel Speer about the song and video and here’s what he came back with:

“‘Queer Shit’ is a clumsy attempt to capture the awkward, messy way I came out to my friends and family. It is a recognition of how lucky I am to have the friends I do, and to be in a place where I can safely come out and have the news met with mostly a shrug and a pat on the back. It is acknowledging that privilege while wanting to meet this need of being ‘seen’ as someone valid. In short, ‘I want you to care, but please don’t care, but also, care.’ It is also heavily inspired by Hüsker Dü. For what it’s worth, knowing that queer folks made loud, angry, emotional music has always made me feel less alone.”
