With the release of a new officially licensed Röad Crew American IPA (6.2% ABV), brewed by Michigan brewery Arcadia, beer geeks and Motörhead fans worldwide can continue to debate What Would Lemmy Drink. Though Lemmy was still alive when the official Bastards Lager (brewed by Krönleins in Sweden) was first produced in 2012, several Motörhead-affiliated brews released since then have been issued after his death in December 2015, many of which have been IPAs (like Amplified’s Born to Lose and Live to Win IPAs).
Interestingly, Röad Crew was first officially produced by Camerons in the UK in 2015 for the European market as 4.5% ABV “American Pale Ale.” It seems as though when Motörhead approaches the beer market in the U.S., it’s IPAs all the way. The lower alcohol lagers and pale ales are reserved for European drinkers/fans.
We haven’t tried the American IPA version yet, but here’s what Röad Crew IPA will taste like, as brewed in the U.S., according to Arcadia;
“This American IPA will sit around 6.2% ABV, a crushable hop-forward India Pale Ale with attitude that showcases a floral and citrusy hop character with just the right amount of malt sweetness. Röad Crew beer is perfect for all rock, beer and hop heads and goes down especially well whilst listening to Motörhead at a wonderfully obscene, lawn-killing volume. Röad Crew will be available in bottles, cans, keg and even cask.”
