R.I.P. Warrel Dane (1961-2017) (Sanctuary & Nevermore)

Warrel Dane

Decibel would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and acquaintances of Sanctuary and Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane. According to Blabbermouth.net, Dane passed away today, December 13, in São Paulo, Brazil after suffering from a heart attack.

Dane’s guitarist Johnny Moraes says the frontman was in his apartment in Brazil, where he was working on the follow-up to 2008’s Praises to the War Machine, his first solo album. In the overnight, Dane had a heart attack. Moraes tried to resuscitate Dane before calling the Mobile Emergency Care Service, who arrived shortly thereafter to find the Seattle, Washington native dead.

Warrel fronted Sanctuary from 1985-1992. After Sanctuary disbanded in 1992–the group reformed in 2010–, Dane went on to front progressive heavy metal outfit Nevermore, with whom he recorded seven full-lengths, the last of which was 2010’s The Obsidian Conspiracy. While with Nevermore, the frontman recorded a solo album, Praises to the War Machine, with ex-Soilwork gutiarist/songwriter Peter Wichers, current Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, and ex-God Forbid guitarist Matt Wicklund.

Rest in Power, Warrel Dane. Keep on singing in the unknown.
