SHRED THE CONCEPT: ARKAIK’S “THAT WHICH LIES HIDDEN”

Usually technical death metal bands don’t require you to pay attention to the lyrics, but Arkaik want you to follow a storyline AND their serpentine riffs. I don’t know if I could do the tale justice, so here’s a quote from the press material:

Lucid Dawn is the second installment in a series of concept albums revolving around Cyrix, a disillusioned character in a dystopian society. In Cyrix’s world, dreaming is systematically controlled by a tyrannical ruler named Khaal-Li-Phar and his army of dark shamans, where people are forced to build monuments to the tyrant to stifle their imaginations and inhibit their ability to achieve a multi-dimensional existence.

So, yeah. All that and Black Dahlia Murder guest appearances. As you can tell, the album in its entirety is a heckuva thing, but we have a more digestible chunk for you right here. Check out “That Which Lies Hidden” below and get a taste of Cyrix’s journey for yourself.
