Alright kids, first things first, watch this:
While I’m tempted to leave all commentary about Italian death metallers Fomento’s “Necropotency” in the capable hands of our Shane Mehling who, when he watched the video and listened to said tune, was quoted as saying, “Holy cocksucking Jesus,” I decided to do a little digging beyond the ridiculous awesomeness of this song to see what I might find.
I found a second tier death metal band who had the symbolic gall to play their first show in their hometown of Rome on June 6th, 2006 (6/6/06…yeah!) and are big into themselves as a quote from lead guitarist Manuel “Headcutter” Minerva illustrates: “We are a brotherhood dedicated to heaviness, committed to violence, breathing hardcore and bleeding metal.”
And it gets better. As it turns out this little ditty is from the band’s forthcoming second album To Persevere is Diabolical (really…?); their rhythm guitarist’s mom may call out “Fabrizio!” when dinner is ready, his friends and band mates know him better as “Dr. Hate”; this isn’t the first time they’ve stepped out all flamboyant-like as the first single from their debut album, Either Caesars or Nothing (huh…?) was called “Kill Fashioncore”; they refer to themselves on their website as an “anti-emo war machine.” And for some reason, playing the death metal that they play, they possess one iota of concern about Creed, Oasis, Skunk Anansie, amongst others. As someone who has ripped on reuniting bands pretty mercilessly in the press in the past (before recognising that no band stays broken up forever and there have been some decent returns to action), even I’m perplexed and blown away by the hilarity and their blanket statement, and can’t stop watching this lyric video. Holy cocksucking Jesus!
