Waldo’s Pecks of the Week for 3/1/11

Every other Friday, Waldo the African Grey Parrot, frontbird of thrash-grind immortals Hatebeak, will get you caught up on the week’s latest “extreme” releases.

Squawk the fuck up? Your old friend Waldo here. Talking the pecks I love, and want to shit on for the next week or so. Let’s get right to it. Drugs of Faith release the long awaited debut full length Corroded on Selfmadegod. This is a grind and roll classic, featuring none other than Richard Johnson (The Grindfather) from such stalwarts as Enemy Soil and Agoraphobic Nosebleed. This is a band to watch out for. Corroded may not be a relentless grind assault, but it’s the “’n roll” riffs that bring this thing together. Unlike some grind releases, the cohesiveness of the songs is there, and I still squawk that Rich has one of the best unaffected grind voices. Check this out, it’s pretty fucking tweet. 7 Fucking Pecks.

The Browning, no not, Mike Browning, just The Browning. Take it to the ULTRA homo side with Time Will Tell on Earache. Jesus this thing sucks, dance riffs, electronica, mixed with screamy vocals, dance beats and breakdowns. I’m not even sure what to think of this. To get an idea, look for the song “Time Will Tell,” which actually starts out like “Tainted Love,” yep, by Soft Cell. They play with synths, but never really get to the singing vocals, which might make a little more sense, but who knows.  Expect to hear some of their music being blasted out of an Abercrombie and Fitch near you. The browning, that’s what would happen in my pants, if I had pants, when I heard this shit.  At least the name is appropriate. What is this stuff really, there’s a market for this? Imagine if Boy George got with the times, listened to a couple of Hatebreed records, and there you have it. Hopefully time will tell them to cut this shit out. This is Frankie Goes to Hollywood on, well, I’m not sure, but it’s on something and not on something good. This makes that scene, (you know THAT scene from Silence of the Lambs) look fucking straight. If you feel like experimenting, take some GHB, go to your local leather bar and blast this from a boombox. 1 Fucking Peck.

Dying Fetus reissue their first pre-Relapse releases on Relapse. Purification Through Violence (their first) and Infatuation with Malevolence. These things rip! You really get to see when this band came from while slugging it out on various labels. Back when these MD death dealers were WAY more underground. Both come with some unreleased stuff and expanded liner notes, some by ex-member Jason Netherton, currently of Misery Index. These have been available off and on through the years, but scoop them up while you can. Unfortunately, the re-mastering job didn’t do much to change the sound on these things, but you can only polish a bird turd so much. A definite necessity for brutality (see how I did that? A new DF record title perhaps). 8 Fucking Pecks.
