Anthrax, Megadeath, and Slayer in Baltimore.
This was my first arena show, plus my first time seeing all of these bands live. It was fucking amazing! I had so much fun. My head and neck hurt for three days straight from all the headbanging and the likes.
All in all, getting me perpared for MDF.

Went to see Swans in Glasgow last Monday. Support was from James Blackshaw…clearly talented at what he does, but just not my kind of thing.
Swans were as expected….
A couple of days later, it was same venue for Godflesh and Zeni Geva…..Godflesh owned.

Well, ever since PTW took the big sleep and GJ's reunion has been milked like The Watchmen franchise, now these guys look like 'survivors'.
If desperately dick-riding The Sword is considered a survival technique.

saw Gaza last thur. with the holy shit awesome Pulling Teeth. I wasnt really aware Gaza only had one guitarist, but he made that shit look easy which is fucked. The drummer held the stage while the other three got down on the dance floor. I guess thats how they do.
The 11 foot vocalist stalked the floor and gave us explanations and stories behind a lot of the songs. They said they dont play Slutmaker live anymore because apparently juggalos got a hold of that song as a way to encourage turning girls out, whereas The Tall Man said it was a song about women's rights and empowerment. Then they played it for us, because I guess we were lacking said Juggalos. They come off as completely in to what they are about, but not pretentious at all. Go see them.

Yeah dude everyone looks up at me. They used to mention how tall I am everytime I met someone, now I've been hitting the weights and they're too afriad or something. That's one of the dumbest things to say to someone who's tall by the way: "Gee you're tall."
"Gee you're a fucking idiot" is how I respond.

Went to the Danzig/Possessed/Marduk/Toxic Holocaust/Withered show at the Congress Theater last night. I was really pissed off that the show started an hour later, so I had to miss Watain's show with Goatwhore and Black Anvil on the other side of town. Anyways, Withered got off to a slow start, Toxic Holocaust previewed 2 new songs and cranked out their thrash hits, Marduk were tight and necro as always Seeing Possessed in an indoor setting was actually better than seeing them on the outdoor stage at MDF this year. With Sadistic Intent backing Jeff Beccerra, the tones are very dry and crisp, compared to Larry Lalonde's fat and round sound. Their drummer was really hamming up his roto-toms. Jeff was a big ball of goofiness compared to the other dudes who seem very serious. Danzig came on after a 20 minute set change, and the new songs weren't really that good live. I was glad to hear some good songs from Danzig I through III, but there was no "Am I Demon" and Danzig teased the crowed with the possibility of "Snakes Of Christ" for the encore, but they played something else instead. Show ended close to 12:30 and it took me about an hour to get home. The funniest thing I saw was Rhinestone Possessed girly shirts! Too bad photography was banned at the Congress, so I cannot take any pics with my shit phone. Oh, and a dude in corpsepaint wearing a Whitechapel shirt. Gotta love the more mainstream shows bringing in the goth sluts.
Tomorrow is Swan King, Wolvhammer, and Hunters for five bones at the Empty Bottle.

I have a bit of a dilemma so I want to see what your opinions are. There are three concerts coming up in December and I'm only picking one to go to. I haven't seen any of these bands before. Which would you recommend? I think I'm leaning more towards Crowbar but I'm still not sure.
December 9th – Enslaved(Dimmu Borgir tour)
December 9th – Cough
December 10th – Crowbar

Friday:
Went to see Like Rats, Harpoon & The Muzzler at the Mutiny. For those who don't know, the Mutiny is pretty much the dumpiest venue any band can play in. It's dirty, but it somehow has some mysterious appeal to it. It feels like going to a basement show, except there's a bar with chicks bartending.
Like Rats played first, made the most of a very tiny space. Really heavy and loud. They could give Kvelertak a run for their money.
Harpoon was a goofy mix as always. Tony the vocalist as usual has some great moves, after all he used to be in 7,000 Dying Rats. Dean and DJ brought the riffs.
The Muzzler got a good review in Decibel recently, and they're a no bullshit fastcore band in the vein of D.R.I. and S.O.D. Y'all should definitely check them out.
Saturday:
Went to see Heavy Lies The Crown, Drug Honkey & Coffinworm at Exit. Blake (Nachtmystium) is gonna be booking free shows at Exit for the forseeable future. The show started really late due to technical difficulties, but it got smoothened out eventually.
HLTC wasn't really appealing to me, just another deathcore band. Their drummer and guitar player got into an argument and abruptly ended their set.
Drug Honkey played an OK set. People expecting a deathcore band got dissapointed when these guys played. They're the dudes from Morgue Supplier, a local death metal band, but playing psychedelic doom. I think they're still finding their sound, but they have improved from the last time I saw them. And of course, barely missed getting by a glass in the head by some drunk yuppie bitch.
Most of the people left before Coffinworm played, but man, that gave them a lot of space to work with. Let's just say that these dudes are the bastard children of Hellhammer and Buzzov*en. Definitely one of the heaviest bands I've seen in a long while. Their set got marred with technical problems like their green lights going off and one of the guitar player's amps blew out, but they made the most of the situation and killed it.
Sunday:
Went to see Enslaved and Dimmu Borgir at House of Blues. My ride wanted to see Dimmu so I stuck around until the end of the show.
Got into the HOB just as Enslaved were starting, and to be perfectly honest, they should be the headliners of this tour. They play such multi-dimensional, lush, layered songs. The HOB sound was horrible and didn't do them any justice. Their set was a good mix of songs from Frost, Isa, Ruun, and the new Axioma Ethica Odini. Too bad they only played for 40 minutes. I do hope they play a smaller and better venue like the Empty Bottle the next time. I really don't get why they would have to play shorter sets to open for middle of the road bands.
Dimmu were pretty much an afterthought after Enslaved. However, their light show was so obnoxiously bright as fuck. Think of getting 10 floodlights blasting you in the face. My eyes were hurting after this show. This Polish dude I know commented on their session keyboard player: "The keyboard player, he look like Robocop!" Shagrath's Jesus Christ Superstar tunic added a sprinkle of cheese on their already cheesy white leather get ups. I also noticed they used samples of ICS Vortex's vocal tracks for the songs he sang on.

Didnt write much about the last concert I went to, so here comes a little longer that goes out to all the nü-metallers on DB-board:
Starting with Vingince who was halfway through their set or something when I arrived at the venue. The music was pretty boring but not too terrible, they had a guy handling either electronics, samples synth or whatever and you could hear anything of it. My favorite part of the show was when their drummer threw out his drum sticks and you could hear them hit the floor because there wqsnt any people yet. The most annoying thing was that the bandmembers was running around after the show trying to seel their record to people. Is this how you "make it" now? I was approached by 3 members in less than an hour. 1 out of 6.
Next up was Breed77 with a mix of Godsmack, Ill Nino and Disturbed. Their set start with whispering vocals, tribal drumming and guitarchug that slowly got louder and then BOOOM. They had a guitarplayer with dreadlocks and one who looked like a pornstar/jazz-musician with long curls and small tank-top, who played all the guitarnerd solos. There was alot of tribal/oriental sounding stuff, acoustic guitar Needless to say this was pretty bad but at least there werent trying to sell their album like this was Mallorca, so they get 1 and a half our of 6 for that.
Next up was the reason I was actually there, 36 Crazyfists. I hadtn realle kept up with what they have made recently but I have one of their old records that I really like, so I thought this would be a great trip down memorylane to a time where I didnt have to cook my own food and didnt check Reality kings on a daily basis. Much to my surprise most of the crowd was there to see them and there was a great repsonce, maybe one of the best I have seen in this city. The band seemed really happy with the crowd and it was just a good concert. Ok, they didnt play alot of songs that I knew but that didnt matter, I had a good timme anyway, worth the money for sure. A big fat 4 out of 6
LAst band and headliner was Devildriver. Its not a band i listen to but I saw them a year ago when they opened for Behemoth and I was surprised at them being better than I thought. The crowd was happy to see them and all that, but it was still a little bit boring and I wasnt surprised the same way as the last time. It was to see the dumb security trying to prevent the stagedives all the time. Compared the last time Dez Faraffaha used alot of the same stagebanter and the mustic was the same i suppose. The new stuff was a new bassplayer, I think, and a VIP afterparty where you could pay 225 dkr and meet the band after the concert, have a photo taken and get some guitar picks and stickers, I think. But anyway, this was ok 3 out of 6
Summasummarum: I came to see 36 Crazyfists they were great and that was all that mattered.

last concert I went to was a little punk show in atlanta, where my friend's band, Kid Nikki, played. The great thing about it was the homeless guy outside waving a championship belt and then pretending to be a Civil War captain, and that one of my friends still looked like Kenny Powers from a halloween party from the night before. As for the music it was punk—like "whoa oooooh! whoa ooooh!" type of punk. Not my kind of thing.

Burning Love – 6/6
This was the best concert I have ever seen. Converge, Napalm Death, Fucked Up, Terror, Iron Lung, Disfear etc. all those concerts got nothing on this.
Pagan Youth – 2 and a half/6
Didnt have high expectations but this was ok. They get a half point for only playing 15 minutes or something like that, though.

Arsis/Misery Index/Grave @ 013
Actually Fehler (local band), The Rotted and some other band were on the bill too, but the show started at 6 pm and I couldn't make it.
Arsis suffered from mediocre sound, but there was a whole lot of superb shredding going on and they had a nice old school 'party!' vibe.
Misery Index slayed. Great sound, one of the tightest concerts I've ever seen. Their drummer is a machine. One of the best shows of the year.
You'd expect boring old Grave to make not much of an impression, but I guess having to play after Misery Index made them step up their game, because they were focused and inspired. None of that sloppy Stockholm death stuff.
Tonight Torche & Black Breath in Utrecht (which means I'll have to miss Immolation and Napalm Death in Eindhoven. Choices, choices…)
Update: That will be Black Breath & some last minute replacement local band, since Torche's drummer lost his passport getting the band stuck in the UK.
