A “Festering” Ear Worm: Exclusive Acrania Premiere!

Thanks to Acrania the world shall soon no longer need wonder what it would sound like if George Orwell served as spiritual advisor to a uber-brutal modern death metal band — these London slammers’ kinetic, oppressive, appropriately-titled debut full-length Totalitarian Dystopia will answer that question in fairly definitive fashion at the end of next month.

What? Worried this assessment might be doublespeak? Set your mind at ease with the exclusive premiere of the lyric video for the sick grind-y jam “Festering With Dishonesty” below:

Totalitarian Dystopia, out August 19, features guest appearances from Tom Barber of Lorna Shore, Mendel of Aborted, and Jamie Hanks of I Declare War. For more information visit on Unique Leader.

Why is everyone calling this band “brutal death metal” all of a sudden? Quality aside, it’s still deathcore.

    • Matthew

Sure, if you define deathcore as simplistically as any death metal that contains breakdowns, but then you’d be forced to label Suffocation as deathcore and that would cause a shitstorm

      • Guest

Or maybe the deathcore tremolo riffs, not to mention the vocals.

    • Lord Burzum

Cause deathchore doesnt usually have slam riffs.

I know NUMEROUS deathcore bands that have slams (Annotations of an Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder on their Infinite Death EP, even Suicide Silence play a couple slams on The Cleansing). Acrania IS deathcore. They play more breakdowns than they even do slams. The band is great, but they’re not death metal. They’re deathcore. You’re all just afraid to admit that it’s deathcore. it’s like saying “I hate horses, but I like this horse, so this can’t be a horse”

      I hope you mean Grindcore.

  • Bonglips

A lot of tremolo picking and simple riffs, nothing that stands out for me.

I enjoyed Acrania’s debut…it was decent, didn’t like the vocals all that much but the gutterals bit…but now, they’ve changed into something I won’t stick around for..

this sounds a lot like the death metal cover of that pop song “friday”

I don’t understand where all this negativity is coming from. I can understand that not everyone digs the squeals and vocals but it’s still pretty promising and has great potential. With time they could become the next Ingested. Personally I wouldn’t judge an entire album on one song. Also it’s really fucking annoying how much metalheads argue about what the exact sub-genre a band is these days. It’s still metal, so shut the fuck up and enjoy.
